Priority is Calling

Through the lock down most individuals lived substantially simpler lives than they were once accustomed to. Not only were extra curricular activities canceled but many people were not working and social lives took a pause for the better part of a year. However now as restrictions have started to lift across all of Ontario and Canadians are not only starting to work back towards the lives that they once lived but they are adding more to their plate each and every day. While this is exciting to many it is also causing concern for some as they no longer understand the complexity to balancing their lives.

Oftentimes people will tell you that their brain is going “a mile a minute” or they have “101 things on their mind.” At the University of Oregon researchers concluded that the average human brain has a capacity of four thoughts that it can entertain at any given time. However, although the average person can think about four things

Tomorrow’s Trouble

Do Not Bring Tomorrow’s Troubles Onto Today

Before you buy a house you have an inspector walk through it. Before you have a child you do copious amounts of planning. Before you go on a long road trip you get your oil changed and check your tire pressure. Big events can be stressful but there are always measurable actions that can be put in place to set yourself up for success and mitigate the risk of things going wrong. So that leaves the question, why is it that we still get stressed over things that are outside our control?

Rather than closing your eyes and blindly hoping for the best, come what may, it is more beneficial to do your best to carefully and thoughtfully prepare for the road ahead. Make a plan, execute it, then deal with what cards are dealt to you. So many people pre-stress and freak out about things that are beyond their control. For example; there

Living life with boundaries and being boundless

Boundaries and Boundless… Oxymoron you might say but I would beg to differ and let me tell you why. Growing up boundaries are very important. Do not talk to strangers, be home before the sun sets and always do your homework. Boundaries help people create safe spaces around themselves to allow development and growth in a safe environment that promotes sustainability. While this is very important it also has the ability to be detrimental to one’s imagination and their ability to push beyond.

The course of life is fairly laid out for most people. School, job, family … life! And while these boundaries all increase the potential to live a safe and satisfying life they also represent a potential roadblock to new and unique experiences or potentially amazing opportunities. With today’s new technology and different generational cultures a lot of individuals have embraced the concept of a boundless life. Living in vans, traveling non stop and irresponsibly pursuing what others perceive to be an

Maximizing capacity benefits work life balance

Capacity is such an interesting topic because every person’s capacity level is so unique.

Some people believe that Capacity is static, you have what you have and it doesn’t change, my experience is that Capacity both grows and shrinks.  I can think of times in my life when I had to simply get more done than I thought possible, and without moving a deadline or shifting my personal responsibilities I found I was able to get it done. Equally, I have noticed that there have been times in life when I didn’t have a lot to do, this is especially relevant a year ago right now as the whole world shut down. What I found when I went back to work was that I was more tired and less productive than I had been in the same setting with the same responsibilities previously.

Capacity is created through a series of events:

One’s understanding of tasks that

A goal without a plan is meaningless

Let’s say that you are in your hometown of West Reading, Pennsylvania going downtown with some friends for dinner and the local pub that you show up at has a great little country singer named Taylor Swift, who you enjoy listening to as the night passes. By the end of the evening, you go over and drop a $10 bill in her guitar case because … she earned it! She sang her little heart out and did a good at it too.

A few years go by and this little country singer has blown up. She has released multiple albums and started touring. She performs large concerts and sings for thousands of people. Finally, you have the night off work and get a group of friends together to go to her concert. As you purchase the ticket it does not phase you that you are paying $250 to go watch her because she is worth it. Taylor started out young, she put in a lot of time and energy into
