The Waves

“No, I am not looking for help with staffing right now, we are laying everyone off because of Covid.”

“No I am not looking for help with staffing right now, we are in a skeleton crew at the moment.”

“No, I am not looking for help with staffing right now, we are still trying to bring back staff from before our layoffs.”

“No, I am not looking for help with staffing right now, we are trying to stay on budget to compensate for some Covid losses.”

THE GREAT RESIGNATION

All Employees are MIA…

“YES! I am looking for help with staffing right now! I am trying to hire an XYZ and I can’t find one anywhere. “

With the rate at which technology has continually increased creating opportunity for virtual hires, and then with the need for virtual recruitment and hiring that came from Covid not

Never Stop Training

This past year on a Sunday night not that long ago after hours of training, game after game and what I would imagine to be more than just a few play drafts the Los Angeles Rams faced the Cincinnati Bengals. With a hyper crowd sitting at the edge of their seats the Rams took the W with a 23-20 final score in 2022’s Super Bowl.

Now when you think about football players, what do you think about? Big, bulky, strong perhaps, maybe, but even more than that, football players are: professionals, athletes, they make meal plans, they take time in the gym, and practice, practice … practice. Athletes are amazing at what they do and yes perhaps some of that is a natural given talent but so much of that is blood, sweat and tears, but why? Athletes train the way they do because they want to invest in their careers and be better every single day. They put work into their craft and

The Keychain to not Getting Ghosted

Everyone has been ghosted before and you are no exception. From the girl next door to “the best interview ever” we have all experienced getting ghosted at one point or another. Unfortunately for the hiring market today the process of getting ghosted continues to be a hot topic running through zoom meetings and emailed memo’s.
“The interview seemed like it went really well, however after leaving two voicemails, sending three emails, and calling four times it appears that the candidate has ghosted us.”

-Written Every Single HR Manager/ Recruiter/ Sourcer at least once since 2019 when Covid began.

Getting ghosted by a candidate is no fun because after getting your hopes up that you have had a good interview or located a good candidate for the role there is still a high potential that the interviewee will be uninterested in moving forward.

A Few Things to Keep In Mind If You Are Getting Ghosted Regularly:

Price – Speed of Delivery – Quality

My mom always told me that you can’t have everything but my customers don’t seem to believe her. Literally, I am not lying. My customers seem to believe that you can have quality, speed of delivery and low price all wrapped up together but I am here to tell you, it is just a myth. Who hasn’t in the past 24 months ordered some shiny, new, cool gadget off their Instagram or FaceBook feed only to learn this lesson one more time? You can’t have high quality, low cost, and immediate delivery. In the current environment of a broken supply chain this runs particularly true.

Quality – when you are looking for quality you are looking for something that will do what it is supposed to do, when it is supposed to do it every single time. It is a combination of reliability and consistency. It does what it is supposed to do and it ALWAYS does what it is supposed to do. It

Must Have List

When parents start to encourage their children to start looking for universities they encourage them to create “must have” and “it would be nice” lists. These soon-to-be graduates then sit down and list things off like, “my school must have an intramural baseball team, a really nice library to study in, be within my price range, and be between 2-6 hours away from home.” They would then continue to say, “it would be nice if my school had a big gym, had a separate building for my degree program, and had cheap dorm options.” As you grow up, oftentimes big decisions such as schools get the same list like weddings, buying a car, buying a house or when looking for a job.

The process of getting a job can be challenging and there are some points in life where you need to take any job offered to you and make it work in a hard situation. This however is not always the case. When

The Time to go Back to Work is Now

Since Covid has begun the employee market has looked very different than it did just a few years ago and while vaccines are rolling out, restrictions are going down and things are opening back up … employees are not yet going back to work.

Now it is important that this is prefaced with a thankyou and acknowledgement to everyone who continued to work during the lockdowns and stay at home orders. Having people that continued to go to work and remain employed through these past months has been vital as we move forward. We applaud our Drivers, Warehouse Workers, Retail Workers, Nurses, Doctors and many others who were deemed Essential. Thank YOU!

While getting the government subsidy is nice and there is no doubt that free money is rare and something everyone wants more of, soon it will come to an end and that end will be a rude awakening for many. Enough is enough if you are able it is

The Recruitment Process

Some of our customers have experienced the process of recruiting themselves either because they do some of their own hiring or they tried to fill a role before reaching out to us. However, lots of our customers only use agencies and don’t really understand the method behind the madness. So many people think about the recruitment process and assume it includes posting an ad and interviewing a few candidates and while yes, we do post ads and interview candidates there is so much more behind the scenes than you would expect.

The Evolution of Recruiting

Recruiting is not a new game, but we are definitely playing by new rules. Year over year recruiting continues to evolve and change. 30 years ago it was as easy as placing a sign outside your building that read “Help Wanted.” 20 years ago the process involved newspaper ads and a quick interview but now with the way that technology has evolved the entire recruitment process

Tomorrow’s Trouble

Do Not Bring Tomorrow’s Troubles Onto Today

Before you buy a house you have an inspector walk through it. Before you have a child you do copious amounts of planning. Before you go on a long road trip you get your oil changed and check your tire pressure. Big events can be stressful but there are always measurable actions that can be put in place to set yourself up for success and mitigate the risk of things going wrong. So that leaves the question, why is it that we still get stressed over things that are outside our control?

Rather than closing your eyes and blindly hoping for the best, come what may, it is more beneficial to do your best to carefully and thoughtfully prepare for the road ahead. Make a plan, execute it, then deal with what cards are dealt to you. So many people pre-stress and freak out about things that are beyond their control. For example; there

Any weak link caused by an impending issue, such as a global pandemic, can create a major disruption in your company’s production. A weakened supply chain means your human resources team is more important than ever, and being able to fill positions quickly is going to be your best chance at staying afloat.

“Your people are critical to a healthy supply chain.  It’s the people who hold the chain together.”

-Dave MacDonald, President, The Better Together Group
